Instructional classes are taught by Red-Cross certified swim instructors to youth 18 months through adults.
Classes are held at Tulare Western Pool, June 12 - July 21, 2017.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

GROUP LESSONS

PARENT AND ME  (Open to all parents and toddlers 18-36 months)   This  class is designed to involve you and your child in the water. You  and  your  toddler  will  be  exposed   to   water adjustment  activities, practice  water  safety skills and practice safe and effective use of floatation devices.

HOT TOTS     (Open  to  all children 3-5 years of age with no swimming ability)  A water adjustment class for preschoolers to acquaint them with  the  pool  and  give  them  confidence  in their own ability in the water.  The class is under the guidance of W.S.I.  qualified  instructors.  Emphasis is placed  on holding  breath, kicking, and floating  as well as participation in water games. This class is not  designed  to  teach  children  to  become accomplished swimmers nor should it be considered a "drown-proofing" program.

BEGINNER  A     (Open  to  all  children  5-7 years of age and older)  This program is for children  with no previous experience in the water who are ready to learn.   During  this  class, children are taught the basic elements of swimming including holding breath, buoyancy, and movement.

BEGINNER  B     (Open  to  children 6 years of  age and older) Students enrolled in this program will experience swimming skills as outlined by the American Red Cross.  Students who do not possess skills as outlined in the Beginner A program are not encouraged to enroll in this class.

ADVANCED BEGINNER (Open to students who successfully  completed  the  Beginner  course  or able to  swim  a  25 - yard  distance  with  proper breathing technique)  This   course  concentrates on  increasing the  endurance of  an  individual  improving  one's ability and confidence while in the water and introduction of coordinated movements.

INTERMEDIATE (Open to students who have successfully completed the  Advanced Beginner course)  This program will provide the student an opportunity to improve upon the individual swimming skills and endurance.

SWIMMER  (Open to students who have successfully completed the Intermediate course)  This class will concentrate on perfecting individual stroking movements and aquatic safety skills.

PRIVATE LESSONS   (Open to children 2 years of age and older and adults ages 18 and over at any swim level)  This is a 1-week, one-on-one instructional class. May be arranged during all session times listed.

Registrations will be taken at the Recreation Department beginning January 9th thru Friday, June 9th.
Beginning Monday, June 12, registrations will be taken at Tulare Western High School Pool. 
Registrations will also be accepted online.

 

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD

AGES 13-17 with “Swimmer” class skills

This  class  will  prepare students for a certified lifeguard training program.  Class informs  participants  about  potential  water hazards, shows how to prevent emergencies and teaches how to perform specific rescue techniques. Students passing this  course  may  be invited to aide water safety instructors in swimming classes.  Pre-requisite: Knowledge of strokes and swimmer level skills.

WATER POLO FOR BOYS & GIRLS

AGES 11-14

Regardless  of  your  swimming  abilities, this program  offers  youth an opportunity to experience the fun of water  polo.  The  program  will  feature  an  instructional swim component  to  increase  the  skill  and  physical  level  of  new  as  well as the more advanced swimmer.  Water Polo  teams  will be formed and  intersquad games will be scheduled.
