Are you a high school student between the ages of 14 - 17 and you want a job but you have no work experience? And how can you gain experience if you are unable to find employment? Turn in an application, pass an oral interview, and the Recreation Department will hire you as a Volunteen. You'll be provided with challenging and fun opportunities, given on-the-job experience (as a youth sports coach, a recreation leader at the BEST afterschool program, or perhaps as an office aide at the Senior Center, Community Center or Animal Shelter), learn new skills, meet new friends, help others in the community, and gain in self-confidence. Teens have an opportunity to build a resume as they donate their time. Upon completion of a successful volunteer experience, teens may receive letters of recommendation, Certificates of Appreciation and media publicity about their volunteer activities. Letters of recommendation may help a teen in the future in acquiring scholarships and/or employment. Stop by the Recreation Department at 830 S. Blackstone Street for an application. Volunteen Applications are accepted year-round. For further information, please call 559.684.4310.
