New Concussion Protocols went into effect January 1, 2017 which applies to athletes participating in youth sports organizations. in which persons 17 years of age and younger participate in baseball, basketball, bicycle motocross (BMX), boxing, competitive cheerleading, diving, equestrian activities, field hockey, football, full contact martial arts, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, parkour, rodeo, roller derby, rugby, skateboarding, skiing, soccer, softball, surfing, swimming, synchronized swimming, volleyball, water polo, or wrestling.

Parents, please read the Concussion fact sheet thoroughly. You will be asked to sign the consent form for most youth   sports activities upon registration.

Youth Volleyball

The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for youth volleyball for 
boys and girls in grades 3rd through 8th. Practices begin September 19 and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Tulare Youth Center and games will be held on
Sunday afternoons beginning October 1, 2017. Program fee is $70 per child and $60 for
additional siblings. Fee includes a team jersey and team photo. This program was
previously operated by the Tulare Youth Athletic Association (TYAA).

2017 Youth Volleyball

Intro to Tumbling

Introduce your child to tumbling with Tulare Parks and Recreation! Participants will learn basic tumbling techniques and exercises to build skills, strength, and flexibility. Our goal is to introduce tumbling necessities such as splits, cartwheels, bridges, and bridge walkovers in a fun and safe environment. Classes are for beginners.

Presports

It's never too early to start your children towards a healthy and activity lifestyle, so step up and enroll them in Presports. It introduces your preschooler to the fundamentals of tee-ball, soccer and basketball. In a non-competitive environment, they will develop motor coordination using soft equipment for kicking, throwing, catching and batting. This program instructs children from ages 2-4.

Sports Camp ~ Adaptive & Inclusive

Recreation is important for children of all ages and abilities. This four-week program is for children with special needs featuring the fundamentals of basketball, soccer, tee-ball and hockey. Participants will practice fundamentals in a non-competitive and encouraging environment with recreation staff and Teen Heroes.

Participants will work on developing motor skills and coordination using equipment for kicking, throwing, hitting, catching and batting. Staff will modify sports to the best of their ability. Emphasis will be on encouraging participation and movement without competition. Parents are encouraged to assist.

Little Dunkers Basketball

Boys and girls, ages 4-7, are encouraged to participate in the non-competitive, co-ed league where team coaches introduce games and skills which reinforce the learning of dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding. Scrimmage games help acquaint the children with placement of offensive and defensive players and position responsibilities. Class size is limited, so you are encouraged to register early.

Little Sluggers Tee-Ball

Want to boost your child's self esteem? Tee-ball is a non-competitive league for 4-7 year olds. Children are introduced to fundamental baseball skills where general rules of baseball and field positioning are introduced during weekly games. A soft baseball is used and children hit off a batting tee. Equipment is provided, however, players must provide their own glove. Class size is limited, so you are encouraged to register early.

Little Dancers: Intro to Dance ~ Ballet

Dance classes are ideal for toddlers because children love to move and dancing promotes physical activity, musicality, and creative expression. Engaging a child in dancing activities also increases attention span and gross motor coordination and development.

This non-performance oriented class will keep children engaged and attentive by combining dance activities with creative movement using fun and appropriate music, themes, props, and games. Students are encouraged to wear dance attire including ballet shoes, tights and leotard with hair preferably in a bun or ponytail.

Introduction to Colorguard & Auxiliary

This co-ed program is designed for 4th-8th graders interested in learning the basics of colorguard/auxiliary, flag & letter.  Students will learn terminology and flag basics. Class begins with a warm-up followed by drills and choreography. At the end of the 4 week program, participants will have learned a routine to perform for family and friends.This non-competitive class is ideal for preparing students to continue in the performing art of colorguard in middle and high school. Students are encouraged to wear athletic clothes and shoes with hair preferably in a ponytail. Please bring water to drink.

Youth Golf

A series of four one-hour lessons once a week will be held for youth ages 8-14. These lessons will cover the fundamentals of the game, care of equipment and golf etiquette. Four buckets of balls are included with fee. There is limited equipment rental available at the Golf Shop (for an additional fee).

Youth Instructional Tennis

Tennis anyone? Our coaches will teach basic skills, rules of the game, and court etiquette through drills and games. All students must wear tennis shoes and provide their own racket. Rackets are provided for those students enrolled in the Pee Wee class and tennis balls are provided for all classes.

Super Sitter

Help your child make a difference by enrolling him or her in our comprehensive babysitting class. It is designed to instruct young boys and girls in basic but vital skills of child care. Class includes accident prevention, emergency actions, basic care of children, and fundamental babysitting responsibilities. It is suggested to also take the CPR for Kids class. There is a discount for taking both classes.

CPR for Kids

Would your child know what to do if a friend was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool, if a classmate was choking on food during lunch time, or if a parent or grandparent collapsed at home with a stroke? As terrifying as these events may be, kids who know the correct action seem to experience less panic. This class is designed to teach your children how to recognize the signs of cardiopulmonary emergencies, what response actions to take, and the correct CPR method to use.
